JOB SUMMARY
The role of the Associate Buyer is to learn all aspects of the buying function leading to independent and proficient business performance. The Associate Buyer accomplishes this through market travel, performing various analysis of the business and identifying market trends, conducting store visits and developing strong communication skills across the business.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
MARKET TRAVEL
Accompanies & assists Buyers on trips to domestic and foreign markets.
Logistically prepares for market, runs focus reports.
Take notes for Buyer at vendor stops.
Spend time travelling in other markets.
Strategizes with Buyer pre-stop, observes and debriefs post-stop.
Understands and determines value through the edit, selection process and evaluating brand, fashion price and quality as it relates to the buying department.
BUSINESS ANALYSIS
Performs various analysis to be used in developing seasonal strategy.
Utilizes available technology and systems resources to analyze business.
Analyzes key reports associated with Buying.
Identifies and reviews business trends with Buyers and Merchandise Managers during recaps.
ADMINISTRATION/PROBLEM-RESOLUTION
Writes and tracks purchase orders.
Prepares analysis, samples and information for strategy meetings; provides meeting recaps.
Act as liaison to resolve shipping problems.
Follows up weekly on vendor shipping/late lists.
Act as a liaison in the resolution of Import buying issues.
Co-ordinates incentive purchase. Re-orders program merchandise as needed.
STORE/COMP. STORE VISIT
Visits stores and competition to study and critique merchandise mix, price points, new labels and timeliness of merchandise.
Through competitive shopping, identifies key opportunities and merchandising strategies.
INDIVIDUAL/INTERPERSONAL
Creates and maintains a work environment which supports TJX Company values/policies.
Treats others with dignity and respect and strengthens the business by supporting and aiding in the development of colleagues within Merchandising and across the business.
Fosters and promotes an environment which encourages teamwork toward common goals.
Proactively seeks feedback and asks questions to progress within the role.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree with professional qualification in product development and designing.
Minimum 10 to 12 years of experience in furniture and hardgoods,
Preferably 4 plus years of experience at the Buyer level
Knowledge of the market conditions, trends and resources.
Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
